Savages – Husbands

Savages are an all female four piece band from London who make expansive punk music which has throwbacks to the 70’s while still keeping both feet firmly in the here and now.

Savages are heading out on extensive UK tour this summer, alongside Palma Violets, which kicks off in Manchester on July 24th with stops all over the country, before it comes to an end in Brighton on August 7th. Appearances at the Reading & Leeds and 1-2-3-4 festivals are also pencilled in on the Savages tour calendar.

The debut release from Savages is the double A side of Husbands and Flying To Berlin. They’re both brilliant songs that show scope and depth in Savages sound. Husbands shouts while Flying To Berlin dances. Husbands/Flying to Berlin was released through Pop Noire records on May 28th 2012, so if you like what you hear/read, go and download it.

Husbands is a juddering whirlwind of a song. Abrasive instruments played with a controlled chaos force the track to take on several sounds and there’s a raw beauty created through this. There’s an underlying intensity to Jehnny Beth’s vocals and the thundering crash of instruments that surround them only further enhances the frailty of her voice. Husbands is fantastic, with gritty guitars and pounding bass yet fuelled with clever pop sensibilities it’s a track that should appeal to many.
