Tnght – Higher Ground

Tnght are a production duo consisting of Hudson Mohawke and Lunice. They blend hip-hop beats with a dance vibe but twist it in such a way that it transcends genres to exist in it’s own little sphere of intrigue.

Tnght’s self-titled EP was released on July 23rd 2012. It features the lead single Bugg’n, which got some heavy radio airplay, and the fabulous Higher Ground alongside three other songs.

Higher Ground is a jarring track that features little loops and samples that could easily be annoying but only manage to be infectious. A pounding and dirty synth bass line give the song it’s backbone while bursts of electro chatter and whirring explosions drag it’s scope wider and make it deep enough for you to return after the first listen. It’s a swirling vortex of noises and ideas that shouldn’t work together but have been delicately arranged to create a track that’s different yet accessible. It’s a clever piece of music that is really captivating, so much so that after it’s untimely conclusion I pressed replay. This cycle took a fair few rotations to break.
